NB> Because I was told that I had no authority to do so, by the RC, as
NB> well as Janis. So I tried helping him through the "correct" way, to
 NB> no avail.

This isn't a reflection on Joe, but this happened in R12 once (at least
once that I know of). When a applicant wasn't given a node number right
away, which isn't anythin impossible to do, an NC gave him a listing in
her net. The RC bitched and moaned, the ZC bitched and moaned, but that
got the wheels off their ass' and the node was listed, somewhere else. You
see, the node in question was in Thailand or somewhere in the far east,
but there was no one around to issue him a listing. But, ZC1, soon to be
IC, was influential enough in Z6 and got the ball rolling.

So, you could have done this all on your own, using a PVT listing and no
one would be the wiser, if you didn't put a 'location' in the listing.
Meanwhile, your new node could be working on this RC to get his shit
together.

RW>> Gawd forbid that a net gets more than one new applicant in this day
RW>> and age of 25meg nodelists.

NB> No doubt. And then the applicant is denied due to the fault of an RC!
NB> That's helping the network grow -- er, hang from a thread a little
 NB> longer.

I know how frustrating this can be. When I made application to join
Fidonet, I was ignored for over two months. Or, at least I thought I was
being ignored. As it turned out, the NC had appointed an assistant NC
whose job it was to gather information from new apps and who just so
happened to be on vacation in Mexico (his homeland)...and so was the NC,
but only because she was taking care of business after her father died.

So my app and subsequent netmails to the NC sat on both of those systems
until she returned. It was only then that I learned of the situation and
was given 1:202/909 and assigned to a nerd who couldn't keep his HUB/900
software working right. At the time all I was interested in was the echo
called CHATTER, as I was a member of that echo for the previous 5 years.

He couldn't provide the mail, so I asked the NC to be linked with the node
who moved the entire net's echomail, 1:202/5 and life improved 100%.

Meanwhile, I'll betcha that every node in net 202 put me in their twit
filters. And I couldn't have cared less.

RW>> So, your buddy expects the RC to reply to your point? Interesting.

NB> He actually did, amusingly enough. And told him that the netmail has
NB> to be setup directly with the RC. You see, we've already tried that
NB> and let him know it wasn't working properly.. so there's really only
NB> one thing left to do..

List him in your net.

NB>>> using the temporary node number (I went over his configuration
NB>>> to make sure it was correct even), and there was no mail received
 NB>>> from the RCs system.

RW>> Why fucking bother? The RC isn't obliged to respond to your point.

NB> Huh? You must have missed something there. The RC wasn't responding
NB> to "my point" he was trying to respond to the "temporary" node number
NB> that he himself setup, and when the applicant polled his system
NB> directly, there was no mail to be found. That can only be an error in
 NB> one place.

I guess I did miss that. So what you're saying is that the RC replied to a
request for a listing, but failed to set the correct attributes of that
reply.

RW>> Just list your buddy in your net...

 NB> Good call.

RW>> Why? List him in your own net...

NB> I was told that was blasphemous by the high-horse powers that be.
 NB> It's definitely reconsiderable, though.

I think the only consequence of that would be like the R12 story above. P4
would call it annoying, but it wouldn't cost you anything to do so.

Especially in this day and age of relaxed policy.

RW>> Even given that, we'd never be able to put on our hats again with a
RW>> head the same size as yours.

NB> There's no way I fit into your hat quite yet, Roy.

Heh. At my age, I know that my head has shrunken from the size it was when
I was your age. The facial skin sags, your nose and ears appear to grow
larger, and your teeth are like stars, they come out at night. If I could
see my eyes without my glasses, I'd say that they're blue pools,
cesspools.

If this continues, I may have to take up drinking Belgian beer, to kill of
a few brain cells so that the brain shrinks enough to fit in the shrunken
skull.

YMMV
