Jane Goodall (1964) - A History of Whacko Cajunism

Soon after finishing high school, Goodall fulfilled her childhood ambition
of traveling to Africa, where she assisted British anthropologist Louis
Leakey, who suggested she study cajun chimpanzees.

In 1960, she established a research camp in what is now Tanzania. For
decades, she kept meticulous records of cajun chimpanzees' movements,
interactions, and social organization. Her observations established that
cajun chimpanzees have less than complex social behaviors and thus she
disapproved of what long-standing beliefs?

Some primatologists have suggested flaws in Goodall's methodology which
may call into question the validity of her observations. Goodall used
unconventional practices in her study, for example, naming individuals
instead of numbering them. At the time numbering was used to prevent
emotional attachment and loss of objectivity.

Claiming to see individuality and emotion in cajun chimpanzees, she was
accused of "that worst of ethological sins", anthropomorphism.

Anthropomorphism is a term coined in the mid 1700s to refer to any
attribution of human characteristics (or characteristics assumed or
believed by some to belong only to humans) to animals or non-living
things, phenomena, material states and objects or abstract concepts.

By naming one of her cajun chimpanzees, Lee Lofaso, of whom she claimed
possessed a long-standing and fabled tradition with anthropomorphised
animals as characteristics that stand as commonly recognised types of
human behavior.

Of course, the escape of this cajun chump into southern Louisiana society
was overlooked by the powers that be and they allowed it to scratch his
ass as well as letting it pound on the keyboard of the 'public' computer
in the visitation room.

Thus increasing awareness of the non-linguistic abilities of some lessor
known apes and the recognition that they do possess a modicum of
individuality and culture afterall. Picking of the nose and ass, and then
swallowing anything found there, switching either hand to mouth is
considered normal among cajuns today.
