Well, I'll try to keep this as on topic as I can, the problem with BBS software
is that its just simply too overwhealming for the Facebook/MySpace crowd. Even
a Fido mailer is too complicated. Its about trying to explain a whole new
technology to someone whoes accustomed to instant-messaging, instant
graphics... and basically instant gratification.

Where I'm going with this is that it would be nice to discuss, if possible,
ways to make Fido easier for newcomers to join via protocols. We've appeared to
solve the Internet connectivity issue (nodelist issues aside) with BinkD. I
think it was Werner who pointed out earlier that work was done in Germany for
auto-addressing on the point level in Fido. I worked on the same concepts for
D'Bridge. I'm not overtly happy with the end result of my work and it needs to
go "back to the drawing board".

I see some tremendous talent here and I know it can be done. Politically, on
the other hand... well... I'm not so sure. Assigning point addresses
automatically is one thing. Assigning nodes is something else. My code can
already do it both ways. But node assignment is a whole other ballgame with a
LOT of co-ordinators here.

I wrote a Fido Plug and Play system for D'Bridge so a newcomer can be up and
running in Fido in a matter of minutes, all thats needed is the network address
info. I have an idea in mind for a proposal on an extension to both EMSI and
BinkD... when I have some more time I shall share with all.
