Ärende: Some thoughts after the election...
===========================================
Hello Michiel,

>>> A perfect example of what I as a scientist and technician abhor:
>>> a technical solution for a political problem.

>> It wasnt political...

> The hell it was!

As I told you... it WASN'T political. You seem to call it political because it
suits your agenda to do so. INA: is here for now, and once Ward accepts
MakeNl_Ng, then all your woes will most likely be gone, as I said.. at least in
Z1. We most likely won't need INA:, and yes, most likely we won't need
000-0-0-0-0 either. Options must be tested, but that is what I expect to
happen. What will happen in Z2, I can't know.

INA: was documented and made a standard because so many nodes in _Europe_
adopted it - or did you forget that? You sit here and blame Ross for something
that he created which obviously works for a _LOT_ of people, meanwhile count
the number of nodes who use INA: in both our Zones - if we had an old nodelist
laying around, it would be VERY telling. It was _Ward_ who first decided to
add it to his nodelist IIRC. It certainly wasn't me, though I am very glad
that he did.

And NO, I would not just add MakeNl_NG's new features to the Zone 1 nodelist on
my own. I wouldn't do that to Ward or the other ZCs. These are some of the new
features that could be implemented:

ALLOwunpub:
-----------
ALLOwunpub is a new keyword that will cause MakeNL to allow the
-Unpublished- string to be present in the sixth (phone number)
field of node listings, without requiring the Pvt keyword to be
present in the listing. This keyword is disabled by default. To
enable it, add ALLOwunpub 1 to your MAKENL.CTL file.

ALPHAphone:
-----------
ALPHAphone is a new keyword that will cause MakeNL to allow alpha
characters to be present in the sixth (phone number) field of node
listings. This keyword is disabled by default. To enable it, add
ALPHAphone 1 to your MAKENL.CTL file.

So, it ISN'T Ross who says it wasn't political, is it? It's only you. As I
thought and as I said earlier. You weren't there, you had no idea what was
going on in Region 18.

> was not an exercise in triviality. The INA flag set me to WORK! And for what?
> So that politicians could appease a small group of whiners and so gain points

You call most all of R50 a _small_ group of whiners? Really?? .... I don't.

>You are avoiding the question. if limitations of terms is such a good idea, wh
> not start with the *Cs?

Because we're discussing FTSC elections here, aren't we??? Well, since you
keep changing the subject, I suppose you don't think change is necessary
either. Good. Because I don't think change is necessary.

>> We could leave things as they are and people such as myself will agree
>> to withhold a vote for ourselves.

That I think makes the most sense of all.

> That still leaves the unequality that some candidates and/or FTSC members may
> nominate and vote and others may not. I say when some may vote/nominate all

That's another idea.. let all the RCs/RECs AND standing members vote and
nominate. How can you go wrong there?

> that gets you a ZC for life. Something that you have been harping on when it
> pops up somewhere else...

It only happens when the RCs are happy with the ZC. It can't happen otherwise.
Why do you think Ward has remained in office? I'm sure it is for the same
reason I have.

Take care,
Janis
