==============================
Hi! Michiel,

On 20 Apr 12 14:04, you wrote to me:

PQ>> Mmm? Points are not FTN-compatible systems? ;-)

 MV> though..

Okay. A nodelist lookup for the TZ value for the point would find only the
boss node (maybe - it depends on the smarts of the programmer). It would
retrieve a value pretty close to that of the point, in most cases. (It would
have failed in one case a decade ago, when I had a point operator in Halle,
Germany.)

It still doesn't really matter as message post times would be in UTC,
regardless of the writers' physical location. The authors' local time isn't
really relevant. It's nice to know, sure. But why? Most times we try to
relate the post times to the time that we're reading in our message readers, is
it not so?

However, in the final analysis, this idea of using UTC as the message post time
is quite late in the (Fido) game play.

PQ>> Well maybe it's just one _more_ reason for them to become nodes.
MV> I do not find that a good reason. One of the advanatges of being a

Yes, I know. I have only been CM-anything since getting ADSL 'on' just a few
years ago. Oh, and I was a point for over 15 months back in the mid-90s.

MV>>> Plus that messages coming from system X are not always written

PQ>> Are users really that important? :)

MV> Given that they are an almost extinct species, yes, I think they are
MV> important enough to treat them as a scrarse commodity. ;-)

Users? What users? (Parody of a TV advert here. Sorry.) I have three email
users that I know of, for only one echo that's distributed in Z3 only (that I
know of).

PQ>> (Just by the way... you will notice a TZUTC value is this note.
PQ>> I have not told GoldEd to do this. It does it automatically,
PQ>> probably based on Windows's environment.)
MV> Perhaps it was default stting in your configuration?

Which configuration? It is not in GoldEd's config file. I have checked with
two different copies of Total Commander's viewer (on two separate PCs), and
there is neither mention of 'tz' nor 'utc' (with the exception of being a part
of the string 'dutch' in the char translations).

Oh, also there is no DOS environment variable being set at the time GoldEd is
active. YMMV.

Cheers,
Paul.

... It's really quite simple: Their=not ours; There=a place; They're=They are.
