why do you keep referring to news as offline? it isn't... not in today's
world... one must be online to retrieve the headers and then the message bodies
as the messages are accessed...

you are way behind the curve, then... you can read most all of fidonet's echos
via nntp and a news client on several dozens of sites... i've been providing
such since at least 2005...

just like QWK and Bluewave readers, everyone already has a news client and
they're pretty universal... except for some that don't do more than CP437...

scott who? street? all he's done is to hack in tls authentication for a secure
connection to the news server... i don't know of much else right now... (no
insult intended, scott)
