Sorry for the slow response. I have a life beyond Fidonet.

There is no need to lecture me. You understood what I meant.

When dealing with FTSC matters, I try to be extra careful to not be needlessly
personal. That is why I used  the "the cake" version instead of the "your cake"
version.

You are contradicting yourself. On other occasions you claimed that it was not
the *C's that did the distribution. (or that cut it) You claimed that the fact
that many of the distributors also carry *C hats, is merely coincidental.

I see that you are trying to have both. You don't want it to be part of Fidonet
when it suits you agenda that it is not....

There is no FTSC standard covering file /distribution/.

You made the claim, so the onus of proof is on you.

You can't always get what you want.

Sure I get it. But is is not my problem. File distribution is not part of
Fidonet. By your own decree. I also noted that some mailers have problems with
direct file attaches with LFN. That is possibly related to them truncating the
subject line instead of passing the full 72 characters per FTS-0001. Also not
my problem. The FTSC does not enforce standards, it merely documents current
practise.

You really can't stop belittling people can you?

But I think it is you who does not understand what is going on. What you do not
understand is that you can not have the fish AND the bait.

The FTSC has no jurisdiction outside Fidonet. The FTSC does not create
standards and it does not enforce them. It documents current practise. The FTSC
is a paper tiger. A situation that YOU helped create. Every time the FTSC took
a more proactive course, the powers that be - you being part of it - kindly but
firmly shoved it back into its corner.

What I have learned the hard way is that one should not accept responsibility
without being granted the associated jurisdiction.

If you want file distributors to use 8x3 file names only, write it where it
belongs: in your own rules for your file distribution system. Next step: entice
others to follow.
