Hiua Mark...

Yes, everyone should see the converted message and you are also correct the raw
txt message contains the @-codes.

ml> maybe you might have to write a conversion tool to convert the
ml> codes before posting as you are desiring?? basically a template

ml> i haven't been able to read it like that... have you been able to post

ml> desire? if yes, then go look at the raw message file for that area and
ml> see if the actual @-codes are still in the message or if they have been
ml> converted... i'm willing to bet a beer that the @-codes are still in
ml> the raw message and that sync does the conversion/translation when the
ml> message is viewed... that's just the way i've been understanding
ml> everything i've been reading in this topic...

He just added the explaination to the wiki regarding the -e1 option the other
evening after I brought this to his attention. Synch will only translate the
raw @-codes for user #1 and no other. Using SMBUTIL, according to Rob, I
should be able to import a message into any sub I am doing now for NHL rules
and the bbs ad. Neither of those use the @-codes and everything works out
wonderful. Now, to import a message using the @-codes, I must tell SMBUTIL I
am #1 (the -e1 option). This is what is not working. I want to try one more
thing with with the header and see if that works.

ml> i can also understand why posting it in other message areas to appear
ml> on other bbses won't work since their user#1 is different than the one
ml> on your system... that also points to the translation being done at
ml> view time... you'll probably see the same results if you post it to a
ml> dovenet area... it might read fine on your system since your user#1
ml> posted it but on everyone else's system it would show the @-codes...

Not according to Rob. Translation is done by SMBUTIL and will post the
information that corresponds with each partiular @-code.

ml> as above, i think what you are trying to do will end up with a template
ml> containing the @-codes which will be processed by a tool which will
ml> output a text file with the codes translated to the info you desire and
ml> that text file will then be posted by your posting tool...

Which is exactly what SMBUTIL is supposed to do... :)

Thanks for the input.

Bill
