   Sure much like ..... A large firm offering its employees an opportunity
to join a pension plan with excellent benefits, but there is one condition.
Every employee has to sign up for the plan and they all have to sign within
one month. Lines form in every department to sign up for the plan. . . . .

Within a few days, everyone in the company is signed up except for
one employee, Jim Smith.

  Everyone in the company argues with him__his secretary, his
coworkers, and his supervisor. But Jim won't budge.

  "I just don't get it, it's too complicated to understand," he tells
those who argue with him.

  The deadline is approaching, and finally, Jim is sent to see the
president of the firm. A copy of the pension plan and a pen are
sitting on his deskl

  "Mr. Smith," the president begins, "I have discussed this with your
supervisor. As you can see, we are on the tenth floor of the building
 If you do not sign this paper, I personally will throw you out the
window."

  Without hesitating, Jim picks up the pen and signs the paper. The
president glares at him and says, "Tell me, why didn't you sign the
pension plan before?"

  "Well, to be honest with you, you're the first one who explained it
to me."

  Tearing from the stable on his historic midnight ride, Paul Revere
pulled up in front of the first house on the street.

  "Hello!" he yelled up, "is the man of the house at home!"

  "I am," came the groggy reply.

  "Then arm yourself, for the British approach!"

  Revere rode on and repeated his message at the next six stops. At
the eighth house he called again, and a woman came to the window.

  "Is you husband at home!" he cried. "The British are coming!"

  "I'm sorry," she said, "but he's in Paris on business."

  "Whoa!"

  It was an awful winter at Valley Forge, and, realizing he had to do
something to keep his men from freezing, General Washington decided
to quarter as many as possible in the surrounding village.

  Mustering the men, he set out. The first place they reached was a
tailor's shop. Through the man had a family of ten, he said he would
gladly make room for one soldier.

  "All right," said the grateful general, "I'll leave you with Cox.
He's the shortest man in the regiment and will inconvenience you the
least."

  Moving on through the bitter winds, the general came to what was
obviously a brothel. Although his morality was offended by the
thought of staying there, he knew the welfare of his men must come
first. Thus, he rapped on the door.

  When the madam arrived, General Washington doffed his hat and said,
"My good woman, my troops need warm beds for the night. If there is
any way you could accommodate us, it would be deeply appreciated."

  Worried that the men would monopolize her girls, she said dubiously

 "How many are you?"

  "Forty," he said, "without Cox."

  The madam sighed, "In that case, come right in."
