Ärende: A story

. T> III Another Story!

My name is Dr. Louisa Kendall. I am an anthropologist with the
University of Tomaso. I have specialized in contacting the 'lost'
tribes of the Amazon. Based on reports I had received of a tribe in the
far reaches of the Amazon I set out on the longest expedition of my
career.

After several weeks of canoeing the river had dwindled to the point
that boat were no longer usable. We then set off afoot, even deeper
into the jungle. After two months of intolerable heat, incessant
insects, and constant vigilance against wild animals, I was physically
worn out, and emotionally drained. I decided that we would abandon the
expedition and begin the return trek the next morning.

Having finally made the decision I felt defeated but relieved and
headed for the brush for further relief. It was at this low point that
I stumbled into a clearing and found myself face to face with the people
I came to know as the Komb Pew Tors.

Physically the Komb Pew Tor are a nondescript race. They are not too
tall, nor too short. One could not call them handsome, but they are by
no means unbecoming. They are not quite white of complexion, but they
aren't black either. They do not appear to red or yellow.

The most peculiar thing about the Komb Pew Tors is how they
communicate with those outside the group. Whenever the Chief (known as
the Cee Pee Yew) needs to send a message to another chief he gathers all
of the tribes children (known as bits) to him. He the arranges the
children(or bits) into groups called Bites. The bites are then sent off
down the trail to the messages destination. This system of
communication seems to work well, except when the bits come upon an
obstacle. In their efforts to get by the obstacle the bits often become
mixed up within their bites. When they reach their destination the Cee
Pee Yew will not be able to properly translate the message that the bits
are supposed to carry. This necessitates rearranging the bits into what
is called an `air/or' message to return to the originator. As you may
imagine this means of communication can be terribly slow by our
standards.

I have noted two advantages to the Komb Pew Tor method of
communication. (1) The slowness of the message often results in both
parties forgetting what they were discussing, before the discussion is
over. In at least one observed incident, this slowness averted a tribal
war, since neither Cee Pee Yew could remember what they were arguing
about. (2) The other advantage is that the bits are excellent runners.
They are able to run the trails for long periods and at high speeds. If
these people should ever be forced to become a part of the civilized
world I am sure that their running ability would make them rich from
their sneaker contracts.

Further reports of the lives of the Komb Pew Tor will follow as my
studies progress
