  You don't find such that often nowadays. While I'm not doing VE
Testing or Nets (my 2 niches in ham radio) for my ego (I've gotten where
I'm on the air usually only for nets that I run, and otherwise, I skip
them, due to other things outside of ham radio)...it is nice to be
appreciated.

  That is a sure fire way to nip that stuff in the bud. As noted,
everyone wants the glory and the benefits...no one wants the gall or the
work. Then when folks whine, complain, and b!+ch about the way you do
the job, and you ask if they want to do it, they are guaranteed to
backpedal.

  I thought of the classic "Wizard Of Id" comic strip, where it noted
"It's 11pm. Do you know where your grandma is??"...and you see her going
into the bingo hall.<G>

  A sad note...found out on the Arklatex D-Star Net last night from
Rick, KA2BSM -- that David, KD4NOQ, from Memphis, became a Silent Key
Monday night (not sure if you knew him or not). Rick will announce the
funeral arrangements on the CERT Net Thursday night at 8:30pm Thursday
on Reflector 58A. Rick was understandably emotional, as David was who
got Rick into D-Star. I believe the funeral is set for Friday.

  It's pretty bad when the first thing you look at in QST is the "Silent
Keys" listing. But, I like to look at it the way the late Red Skelton
did. He checked the obituaries first, and if he didn't see his name
there, then he made coffee. <G>

  It also reminds me of the pun where the guy who did the death notices
for the local paper brought his son to work with him, as he was also
getting into journalism (I had that both in high school and college 40
years ago). He was helping his Dad with his job, so his title became
"son of obituary editor". <BG>

  A ham had also sent Rick a "black" R2D2 picture, which is now the logo
of the Memphis Digital Amateur Radio Club (MDARC), which Rick
affectionately refers to as "The Darc Side Of Digital" (hi hi)...and
R2D2 is when the D-Star signal gets garbled. After seeing a D-Star
presentation at a local ham radio club back in 2012, I got into it,
thanks to Rick. I got to meet him at Memphis Freefest several years
ago...but the 3 hour drive between Little Rock and Bartlett is maddening
along "The I-40 Speedway", especially with all the 18 wheelers (trucks).

  Several years ago, when a runaway barge on the Arkansas River, at
Webbers Falls, Oklahoma, damaged the I-40 river crossing bridge,
resulting in detours, reroutes, etc. -- repair crews worked around the
clock, 24/7, for 2 weeks, to get the bridge rebuilt!! Two seasons on the
road...Winter and Construction. In Arkansas, they note "Fines Double In
Work Zones When Workers Are Present". A fellow BBS user, Nancy Backus,
in Rochester, New York, says it's "Two Work Zone Violations In A Year
Means Loss Of Drivers License". I wish it was that way everywhere.

  I've noted this before, but it's so true. Only in America...we rush to
beat the traffic lights at intersections...the trains at the railroad
crossings, and the boats at the draw bridges. Yet, we'll stand patiently
for 3 hours on a golf course...you figure it out.

  I think of the old Grey Poupon commercial, where the guy asks "Do you
have any Grey Poupon?"...and is told "No, but you've got bird poop on
your windshield"!! <G>.

  Yes, I'm in one of my nether moods today...Eric, KJ4JEU, asked me "are
you off your meds again??" -- I replied "I refuse to comment, on the
grounds that it may incriminate me". <G>
