* Expedition 10 Rests Following Spacewalk*
Expedition 10 Commander Leroy Chiao and Flight Engineer Salizhan
Sharipov enjoyed a day off Thursday aboard the International Space
Station. The well-deserved break comes the day after the successful
completion of Expedition 10's first spacewalk
<http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/station/crew/exp10/eva/index.html>.
Wednesday's spacewalk lasted 5 hours and 28 minutes. While outside the
Station, Chiao and Sharipov installed the Universal Work Platform, along
with its base and associated wiring. They also installed a commercial
robotics experiment and a biological experiment on the exterior of the
Zvezda Service Module. In addition, they checked vents on systems that
help control the Station’s atmosphere and relocated a Japanese physical
science experiment.
It was the 57th spacewalk conducted at the Station and the 32nd to be
based out of the orbital outpost. Expedition 10 is scheduled to conduct
its second spacewalk in March.

I have been in e-mail contact with the new Air Force Space Command
keplerian element web site concerning the transition from the old OIG
web site. Air Force Space Command is currently considering how to
administer the new web site. They have told me that no time line for a
decision has been determined as yet. For the time being, I will wait
their decision and I will keep you posted as I receive information.
Patience is the keyword here.

February 2005 AO-51 (Amsat Echo) Schedule
http://www.amsat.org/amsat-new/echo/ControlTeam.php
Updated 30 Jan 2005
AO-51 Kid's Day, rescheduled for Saturday, February 5th. Approximate
time from 1415utc 5 Feb to 0300utc 6 Feb.
Amsat-NA will sponsor Kid's Day on AO-51. We ask that all amateur radio
stations give this short time window to promote satellite operations
with kids. If not actually showing a kid how to make contacts via AO-51,
then providing a station to contact, or stepping aside to allow others
to make contacts with the kids. During the event please limit contacts
to stations that are operating with kids at the microphone. This should
allow the kids to have a nice QSO and pass some information. Kids can
tell their name, age, who is helping them operate on AO-51, where they
live, and other information about themselves.
AO-51 will be configured in the following mode during the event. Please
note the change in the uplink frequency for the event.
Uplink: 145.880 mhz FM voice, 67hz tone
Downlink: 435.300 mhz FM voice
This will be a good opportunity for Amsat to show off our Educational
side. And who knows, maybe one or more of the kids will be helping Amsat
in the future.

As AMSAT Executive Vice President Lee McLamb, KU4OS, is working to
assemble a team of volunteers to focus on the educational portion of
AMSAT's Mission and Vision. Lee said, "AMSAT has many facets in
addition to designing and building hardware. One of them is
education." Lee continued, "By providing an electronic gathering place
for those interested in education, I'm hoping we'll be able to learn
from each other's efforts as well as helping those with ideas find
others who may have resources available."
The AMSAT Educational Liaison mailing list has many purposes. It is an
open forum to discuss the issues of the design, construction, and
operation of amateur satellite projects at educational institutions.
The list also serves the educational community by providing information
about the amateur satellite service, what it is and is not. It is also
a forum for schools to discuss curriculum development and the use of
amateur satellites in the classroom.
The discussion list is open to all educators and educational
institutions actively involved in or considering an amateur radio
satellite project and to schools who wish to use the amateur satellite
service in their classroom. The list is also open to those who work
with the educational community as mentors and volunteers.
Instructions for subscribing to the AMSAT-EDU mail list can be found at:
