Yep, but you can get what you need.  Choose a different band where the
propagation works and you can contact somebody and get help.  I've put an
emergency room physician on the phone patch to more than one skipper to get him
assistance for
somebody with medical troubles.

I see that all over the place.  WE have some good ham clubs
here in the Memphis area that actually work together.  They
elected me vp of one of them this last year.   That club is
big on recruiting newcomers to the hobby.

I strugled with it at the exams when one had to go to fcc
testing sessions, partly because of the pitch of the code on those tapes, got
my tinitis ringing and made life difficult. Finally passed it, they allowed me
to use a guy's laptop to
copy what I heard and used a computer program to generate
the code, changed the pitch.  I kept having troubles, I'd
sit at home copying on air and get 20 wpm easily.  But, I
listen to morse on hf at a lower pitch than most people
like.  Which means with most transceivers I tune the station or net in properly
then hit my rit to change the pitch to
where I like it.
