 Not one war that we lost after withdrawal was ever won. We left
 behind nations that were well equiped, and had years and years
 of US training, yet they could not defend themselves. Maybe it's
 because we left them under the control of governments so corrupt
 they stole everything they could get their hands on, underpaid
 the troops, didn't maintain the equipment, and in general stored
 up enough wealth in secret bank accounts to live in luxury in
 this country when they fled the fall they brought on themselves.

 Iraq had 8 years or more of US training and equipment, but the
 Iraq army came up against ISIS, with 5 or 10 to one odds
 in their favor, and they ran. Not only did they run but they
 left behind heavy weapons ISIS is now using.

 How much more US training would it take for the Iraqi army to
 defeat a much smaller foe? 10 years? 20 years more?

 The Iraqi army managed to fight a war against Iran, and held
 it's own against a larger force than Isis could ever raise. Then
 Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld disbanded that army, against the
 advice of the pentagon. The result is an army that can't stand
 against it's own shadow.

 They appreciated our training so much it was not even unusual to
 read of an Iraqi trainee opening fire on US troops and killing
 US soldiers trying to train them. Does TR want more of that? How
 many of our people does he want to sacrifice to salvage his
 hero's war? Dick Cheney got too damn many people killed in his
 war for oil, why lose more?

 So. TR want's the US to keep troops in Iraq, when all that
 training did zero good at all. Does he want the US to do the
 defense of Iraq?

 I posted this question years ago, so here it is again. Tell us
 just how many troops we should send for how many years or
 decades?

   The Pentagon said they needed nearly 400,000 men before the
   invasion. Donald Rumsfeld and his people said it could be done
   with less than 100,000. Those are the limits chosen for the
   high and low. Between those two, how many would you expect it
   will take from this point on?

   What is your confidence level that a particular level of
   troops will result in a satisfactory outcome in what number of

   victory. This is not just how long we will commit our people,
   but also how long we can stay as the Iraqis become more and
   more convinced they are under permenant occupation. They and
   the rest of the Arab world.
