It wasn't illegal in the individual states until after it became a federal law
and Utah was the first state to make it a state crime. It didn't become a
federal law until 1890, the same years the LDS Church abandoned the practice.

You really need to educate yourself more before making yourself a bigger
fool... if that is possible.

peak, polygamy was only practiced by 5% of the members. It was only for those
who could support plural wives, not for all members.
