that's not really all that relevent... most didn't have a clue that they were
on the internet with a lot of that... in fact, most were simply in awe of all
the data available in searches... it took AOL over 10 years to acknowledge that
they were using the internet for their interconnections... once they did that,
however, the internet, as we know it, was already in widespread use...

you're not going back far enough... i was there, on all those services... heck,
i still have one of the /original/ prodigy disks around here somewhere...
probably right next to one of the original AOL disks... compuserv, on the other
hand, i was using on a 40 column, 15 line system not too awful long after they
appeared on the horizon... all of these were competing with the local BBS' for
users ;)

beside the point... the fact remains that it was there and the users attention
was drawn to it and not to a BBS icon... even computer stores had "problems"
pointing users to local BBS' because of the lack of an "in yer face" icon on
the desktop... yeah, i was there... been working with these one-eyed monsters
for over 35+ years, now ;)

sorry, i can't do that as i was running a BBS for some estimated 5+ years
before AOL raised its head on the scene ;P
