Sounds like we're on the same page now.

Exactly except I'd also say there is enough space to add extras without having
to alter the extras in order to fit in.  In other words, the Dremel isn't
required although I like Dremels but for an entirely different reason.

Speaking of extras, we discovered that sil3114 based cards are even better for
hotwapping than the pdc20375 one and are still obtainable. However sil3124 and
sil3132 based ones are even more obtainable and supposedly work with port
replicators which will enable 5 drives per port, which might be a worthwhile
feature if looking to create a +terabyte offsystem disk array.  Additionaly I
saw a 4U rackmount that can swap out 15 3.5" drives which would require 3 ports
on the host machine with 3 replicators on the array to replicate.  I imagine
that more than 20 drives are possible using 2.5" drives instead but exactly 20
would be the way to go given that most cards already have 4 ports as a rule.

Having said this, I just need one hotswapping port which is definetly doable
and as it turns out cheap even with the overkill of extra ports. As of this
response, I am inclined to go with a sil3132 based card which I still haven't
got but am aware of many, many sources for under $50 Canadian which is nice.

It shouldn't.  My two rules of thumb have always been 'mean and lean' and 'more
for less'.

Too much weight to overcome.  Put those same fans on a mini-itx type case and
it would fly, nevermind just lift.

Those are the only ones I've come across other than seeing a few of their PC's
and laptops here and there but they don't count.  Same old, same old and I
don't see anything there of interest.  The Poweredge's lean more towards my
cyberspace.

Yeah that could happen.  So far this year the heater idea is more attractive. 
Also a dryer wouldn't hurt any.
