Ärende: back in the saddle
==========================
Hey Bob!

Try this in rxvt;
  wget ftp://70.66.64.139:12345/mmail-0.49.tgz

I didn't so anthything fancy with it so doing;
  tar zxvf mmail-0.49.tgz
will uppack it to the current directory as mmail-0.49 which will contain mm and
mm.1 which is it's manpage.

Before doing anything else do;
  ldd ~/mmail-0.49/mm
and it should report something like this;
        libncurses.so.5 => /lib/libncurses.so.5 (0xf7f72000)
        libstdc++.so.6 => /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6 (0xf7eb7000)
        libm.so.6 => /lib/libm.so.6 (0xf7e95000)
        libgcc_s.so.1 => /usr/lib/libgcc_s.so.1 (0xf7e8b000)
        libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0xf7d91000)
        /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0xf7fab000)

The above might be a tad different then the above but the bottomline is that
all the libs should show a location and nothing shown as missing. Please let me
know what yours shows as that will tell me exactly what I did right or wrong as
the case may be. I am guessing it'll be fine. If it is then the rest of this
message is applicable but if anything is missing then ignore the rest and just
delete the archive and the directory it unpacked to.

If you want to make it a system wide runtime as root you'll have to do this;
  install -v -m 755 -o root -g root mm /usr/bin
which will make it executable to all users but change ownership and group to
root which is the normal opertaing procedure.  For the manpage (again as root);
  install -v -m 644 -o root -g root mm.1 /usr/man/man1
OR
  install -v -m 644 -o root -g root mm.1 /usr/share/man/man1
depending where manpages are on your system. Usually either of the above is
fine since one is most often a symbolic link to the other. If you prefer to
keep it in your home directory then just copy or move mm to where you want it
to be. If you ls it it should already be owned by you with 755 permissions
(-rwxr-xr-x). On my system my personal runtimes are in my home directory in
~/bin which is in my personal path. If I do a;
  echo $PATH
as myself then it reports;
  /bin:/usr/bin:/home/maurice/bin
so that anything in /home/maurice/bin, such as mm will run just by calling up
'mm' as user maurice which is me. It won't work for any other user. My guess
is that /usr/bin is where you might prefer it. Totally up to you.

Of course you could make a 'pet' of it. At the moment I can't and I am
distracted with getting a different system up and running. No puppy here yet
as I don't have a CD or DVD ROM on anything, nevermind a burner to burn the iso
which I do have. We'll see later.

Life is good,
Maurice
