I've done that here in the past.  Do you want my newest list?  Quite simular to
my older lists with one or two additions.  I've also got a list for the i386
architecture but am still waiting to hear about perl. I think it is fine but it
hasn't been officially confirmed yet.  It may never be confirmed.  However I
could provide all my build scripts if you want.  A better idea might be to put
it on the ftp site here and let you peruse them at your own leisure.  I am easy
on this subject.

Right.  I doesn't check dependencies on the fly.  If you install everything
then naturally all the dependencies will be met.  If not installing everything
then it is left to you to either take care of it later or know beforehand what
they are.

I have two different bus speeds (33MHz and 66MHz) working off the same ide
controller.  Mind you that is on a board with newer chipsets. On older systems
it probably would default to the lower speed.

Not knowing for sure, my guess is scsi would be best at handling different
speeds.  Most of the problem with ide controllers is with the 40 wire cables as
opposed to the 80 wire ones as well as the ide's ability to tell the
difference.  Mind you there are alot of crappy ide devices out there as well. 
I have yet to run across a bad scsi device but haven't worked that much with
scsi simply because of cost.

A good investment methinks.  However I am not 100% sold on the ones you picked
up in Calgary for me.  I am going to have to have another looksee again soon
and see if a proper lilo append will indeed be what the doctor ordered.

As long as they are ide then that is the right answer.  For burning a cd the
command is simply;

  cdrecord dev=/dev/hd? cdimage.iso

Seems pretty straight forward no?

I wish!  pci-x addon cards are expensive but tend to be of a much higher
quality as a rule.  Also I have no boards with pci-x slots at the moment. I do
have a couple boards with pci-e but other than an Intel gigabit network card
and a sata controller for hotswapping, I haven't run across anything in pci-e
that attracts my attention.
