It could be bumped up but then the noise level would increase as well. Around
this neck of the woods, 28.8 was the most stable fastest speed with the least
noise.  That may have improved since back then but I doubt it matters anymore.

Telco's guarenteed 9600, mostly because of commercial fax machines. Most of the
survey equipment that used serial for data transfers were in the 4800 baud
range.  Slow but effective.

They still exist.  If they didn't I would have abandoned the www ages ago. As
far as I can tell the only reason for a graphical browser for most people is to
view pornography although the excuse is usually something like Google Earth.

I was wondering that myself.  I may in the future but I honestly don't think I
need to unless I plan to start using it again.  I have serious doubts it'll
happen but you never know for sure.

BTW, I am old enough to know better but young enough to care ... every so often
... too often methinks.  :-/

I have long concluded that it doesn't matter.  Mutual interest has absolutely
nothing to do with what interests me otherwise.  If it matters to her then it
won't really matter since it'll never get to the point where it could matter.

Keep it simple.  :-)

Anyhow, what is seems to be best for all concerned which is just me at the
moment.  My children are grown up and my former wife seems to be content from
what I can tell.  Everything is as it should be or at least is what it is.

I liked hydra the brief time I used it.  However nobody uses it, not even me,
so there it sits wherever there is.

Me too.  I haven't run across one in the neck of the woods ... yet.

The write cycles are less.  If you minimalize the writes to the boot/root then
they should last much longer than a magnetic drive especially in a hostile
enviroment.  If it ever matters to me personally, I'd be inclined to use
hotswappable media to facillitate writes.  That way the onboard disk - cf in
this case - has a chance to outlive everything else and any important data
collected would be on hotswappable media ready to be backed up and/or read in a
far less hostile enviroment.  Also for car based media players, I'd totally
ignore CD/DVD's and use usb flash disks instead.  For that particular usuage,
flash disks don't skip or scratch as readily as CD's and/or DVD's and will
definetly outlive those especially if the writes are kept to a minimum.  Also,
also all flash disks I've encountered thus far don't require any additional
software like CD/DVD's and thus are vastly more compatable with what anything
currently stored on regular HD's.  Also, also, also flash disks are vastly less
power hungry than burners so for mobile writes that makes then EXTREMELY
attractive.
