My LinuxMint box here says "xterm."

You could really go headless on your linux box.

Some people would rather that Linux stay a small closed community so they can
feel superior. I'm not saying Maurice feels that way, I'm just saying I've
witnessed such attitudes in the years I've been running Linux. It was that way
soon after Linus first released the kernel into the wild and it has remained
that way ever since.

It's more than likely a holdover from Unix.

I would rather introduce people to the freedom of open-source and security of
Linux than to treat them as inferior.

RC> Xandros and Ubuntu have made decent attempts to give a sense of

The trouble with Xandros is that it is a commercial product and requires users
to pay for everything they could get for free by using most other distros.
Plus, Xandros uses their own custom version of KDE.

I have moved from Ubuntu to LinuxMint. I have used Slackware, Red Hat,
Mandrake/Mandriva, Fedora, Suse, Debian and even Yggdrasil.

It's amusing to witness the holy wars between the various distro adherents.

So, in the end, there isn't much difference. ;-)
