That is also true of other OS's and I don't think it is really a fair
comparison.

From my observations from helping others with installing any Linux distro over
the many years - a decade at least - there have been only a few who have
appreciated the help and most just return to whatever they had going on before,
such as win95, later win98, then win2k, etc. After watching win2k totally screw
up hd's I gave up as that told the tale for me.  I still help out with the few
who are serious about it all but have totally resigned on the rest as it is far
too aggravating and goes nowhere fast.

To be honest if they did I'd be forced to reevaluate what I like.  ;-)

Actually that isn't entirely honest as it has yet to happen.  There are many
who want what I like but they also want me to make it more GUI-like so that
they don't have to learn how it works.  A perfect example is how I handle the
AV stuff.  I've written bash scripts to make it easier for me but often I have
to use the commandline since everything is seldom the same and requires me to
figure it out.  If I were in the business of creating digital music and/or
movies then I'd have more incentive to have standards that fit such a scheme
but I am not so I just deal with whatever happens to pass through, if indeed it
passes through at all, which isn't often enough for me to care one way or the
other.  Graphics - jpegs and the such - I dealt with ages ago but so has
everyone else so it never was an issue other than on my personal monitor which
seldom ever sees a GUI (xorg in this case) and NEVER has seen anything from
Microsoft thank goodness.  Mind you I can say the same about ALL the hardware
under my wings.

Understood.  Now all that remains is to be happy with it.  I have serious
doubts that'll ever happen.  Speaking for myself when I am unhappy with
something I tend to do something about it and it never involves a GUI, or at
least not anymore.  I just ditched my last attempt with xorg as it was more
hassel than it was worth to me.

I've got six of them, none GUIfied, and am using two to deal with this reply.

Two of the others were busy building a new ramdisk destined for a usb boot/root
system.  44M soaking wet full o' pure 64 bit AV stuff. No gui's were harmed in
the making of it.  Will test boot it on the Atom 230 later which is now pure DC
powered.  I plan to use that to entertain myself when the power goes out as
well as help out Russell when he decides on how he wants to handle hus compact
flash boot/root for his idea for a simular scheme.

I'm too sexy for my OS!  <BFEG>
