Your initial complaint was that the nvidia splash screen was preventing you
from getting at the system bios, the natural conclusion is to troubleshoot by
removing the common denominator, 50/50 chance of success.

How so, your computer would still function, even if you never had internet
turned on, you once had to deal with dial-up?

Yes, by eliminating the card that produces that splash screen so that you can
enter the BIOS. Troubleshooting an issue is achieved by back tracking through
is common denominators until the cause is identified.
