*Everything works* Maurice.

I till need to setup second screens and resolutions both
H and V before I can run both cards in all three xorg files
however just this morning got me to all perfect boot and 
in KDE.

Now as Mplayer will not complete a run through make without
exiting on command.o 1 I need to reboot to just the onboard
ATI.

Or further check into ./configure --help

In any case huge progress ands every bit of it
predicated upon my original assumptions.

The ATI Pro Rage Mach 64 is now only allowed 4 meg of memory
and thus my shared memory issues are resolved as well.

I've stress it hard in KDE with Kmail and a half dozen
firefox tabs open and it made a clean break to the command
line with nary a glitch whereas formerly on the ATI cards
take of memory it would have cashed the system.

Enough for one day, tommorow I set up the xorg files for the second
monitor as well and as I said all done in about 90 minutes.

I've backups of the ATI xorg's and those for the Nvidia
so just need a small script to turn one to the other or back
as needed to overcome the boot problem.

Oh and BTW all this progress was the result of a single line
issued at the command line some two weeks ago, the more obsure syntax
was easier for me to comprehend thna how the three xorg files interacted.

Now it's so clear I'm confident I'm nipping at your heels
I'll have both monitors working just fine soon :-)
