Sure, I'm to where I want to mess with that _now_.

I wanted the idiot proof version setup first
so if I set it up for someone else they won't have to go to 
the command line where the rookie can really mess up.

Well I've been burning up 12 hours or more a day
getting this system with the Nvidia working, soon to be
dual monitor.

Had a jump on that in the original conf files that recognised
both the Nvidia card and the Mach 64 onboard video in that it kept the 
monitor from going into low power standby.

Now if I can just read the model number on the HP monitor
as it's in micro-print I'll be all set to setup the xorg.conf
files to reflect both cards with the Mach 64 set to 4 MB RAM
and the Nvidia the full 64 on card RAM

However as the horizontal is set to 40 - 115 and vertical
refresh on the Gateway monitor runs 30 - 160 I can't be
having the HP monitor seeing that so separate
screen sections for each.

Getting very very close however either need to get the exact specs or
use the rather conservative defaults for the HP monitor.

As the Mach 64 uses shared memory it doesn't need to run more than 
4 meg of shared RAM to handle the text only monitor.

Certainly!
Messed up a bit when I got cocky and made a dozen or so file alterations
at a time but easily backed out of my errors.
_Most_ of my mods were correct first go round.

Right now I've two compiles running at once in the background as
root while I'm online as user though one is set to run in about an 
hour and a half after I'm asleep.

touch /home/usr/text/job

sleep 170m && ./configure && make && make install && make clean && echo
job run to completion >> /home/usr/text/job &

Back to using multiple consoles and multitasking again :-)

Wayne is tired, I've got to take a break from this however
the really digging into it for these long sessions reveals
much about the inner workings of the O.S.

Oh yeah, seems there's an Nvidia driver in Slack 2.6.27.7
source as well as Mplayer comes with an Nvidia driver as well.

I think I'll check out the Linux C source code on that Nvidia driver.

I've already tried to extract info from its' BIOS with a utility, no go
and xvidtune is not supported with the card either.
