WC> Never saw in sit in for @ before, this is correct?

Ah, I get LOTS of spam at my tertiary email address, it's
what it's for.

You are now among the very few that have my Gmail address.

WC> That's a drag, my puter is a half arms length from my left arm.

JB> The two I have whiring are too, well depending where I am waking up
JB> from anyway.Hm... Both off my left arm too.

You left handed?
I am.

 JB> I lost a gratis DU

Well it's $32.95/Month here but well worth it for gauranteed
768K and most usually 1,200K.

JB> Exactly what I said. VID-BIOS, POST, MB-BIOS, All other BIOSs (HD
JB> controllers, of any flavor.) ... AGP control issues, maybe? You did
JB> disable the onboard vid controller?

WC> No and this too is the key issue, BIOS dated 1998.
WC> Only two options, onboard, auto, no variation of off at all.

JB> I think the traffic here was trying to identify the culprit. <L>

Some of the traffic here was the culprit.

I managed to repair every bit of damage from the video card
but not OTOH that incurred from following some advice I
was given.

No big deal, I was looking to clean up my installation
and now following my own instincts based upon my own observations
I've cleared most of the issues I had with the Nvidia card.

A bit of time will sort the rest out.

I certainly do now know what NOT to do ;-)

JB> Seems there's a new sheriff in town. On the latest xorg.conf that came

You and me both.
Slack 13 goes onto my next install on this drive once the kernel
supports Nvidia as they've made their driver open source for Linux.

WC> Anyway, that's how I hope it works out, dual monitors

 JB> I have a dual head on this Matrox. (1-VGA, 1-composite) Before I
JB> dropped the lid on the 64-bit AMD, I crammed another VGA card in (PCI)
JB> just to complicate things. (Yup... A sucker for punishment! ;-)

I *like* working these sorts of things out, keeps the mind sharp
due to the nature of the way Linux is laid out.

 JB> The ATI
 JB> I had strapped on has three heads. (1-VGA, 1-DVI/VGA, and 1-composite)
JB> I'm not too much a sucker to try the on-board vid at the same time. <L
 JB> l/a lunatic>

Well me too, next motherboard will have VGA, HDMI and DVI
as well as a full compliment of PCI, PCIx1e, PCIx16e and an aftermarket
USB 3.0 adapter.

I expect to save on the motherboard by buying one that only
supports USB 2.0 once they're released with USB 3.0

Whether I buy it in the next month depends on my travel plans or
lack thereof.

Up to the significant other if she toes the mark to make it
worth my while to make such a drastic move.

WC> So I'll give your email address a shot today after I get it together
 WC> a bit.

JB> I just hope my accounts are still valid. It's been a bitch of a
JB> December, and I need to get in to log-in one of these days.

 WC> Nice talking to you.

JB> Hey... Top of the New Year if I don't get a chance before then!

Hey, kept it short in my email response due to being on the first cup
of coffee and dead tired this morning.

Later we can discuss issues better left out of this echo due to the
way certain individuals regard those with disabilities as easy pickings.

Now I've got my mtrr and Nvidia card all worked out I no
longer need the larger font sizes to read text on this
georgous 21 inch CRT monitor some clown tossed in the trash.

I've looked and cannot find anyone making or offering new CRT monitors
for sale and I just cannot imagine going to flat screen until
the resolutions supported are a bit over twice what they
are now.

This Gateway VX1110 CRT monitor ROCKS!

Perhaps those critical of my observation this is a superior monitor
to the flat screen offerings have never had the joy of owning
such a well behaved and excellent monitor?

I'm betting the Sony can take the advanced settings too
so I'm not even going to bother checking the specs and
if I'm wrong small loss as that's the only 15 inch monitor I've got.

I only just a few weeks ago repaired it but Sony's tend to use
Mil spec parts so can be quite difficult to repair if one
uses a standard transistor substitution guide with such _repairs_
lasting only a few days or weeks in the cases I've observed.

Same for their T.V. sets too or was when last I looked.
Excellent design but a bear to repair unless you overspec
every part you replace in them.

I used to know offhand the name of a distributor that offered such
Mil Spec parts.

Say you can buy a standard horizontal transistor for $9 bucks,
the equivalent for a Sony is more like $35 - $65, or was.
