Hey Russell!
> Just using the default console, at the moment ...
Same here. Even have a special usb boot for the eeepc. The beauty of the
inteldrmfb is that it doen't need any special append line and nails the onboard
video bang on. I can use this same flash disk for any other 32 bit system and
it'll boot to straight vga with no framebuffers so it is still universal when
needed.
> movies look great
Excellent I thought. I can see it clear across the room despite the teeny-tiny
monitor.
> XFCE is not bad, cannot currently visualise windomaker
Comparing the two, windowmaker wins simply because it is vastly less needy
dependency-wise and doesn't mess with the kernel settings. It doesn't pretend
to be anything other than a window manager. That is what makes it the best.

mplayer which can play the same audio as well as video which audacious can't,
not to mention working on the console.

Interesting. Looks to me that mplayer wins again in the 'get more for less'
category.
> SKYPE is a bugger, because I need it,
Not me thank goodness. I was thinking of looking at the linphone schtuff but
still haven't gotten around to it. I am still working out a few kinks in the
flash disk version of 2thingsInk. On the plus side that doesn't have ANY gui
schtuff so neither skype or linphone will ever become a factor. Offhand I
think a purely console based audio/visual conferencing would be doable without
a gui. Not there yet.
Life is good,
Maurice
