Well, as far as older systems go, I am down to 1x PIII 1GHz box, and 2x P4 
boxes (Intel 640, and 524 CPU's) and my first laptop, the EeePc 700 2G Surf, 
being the newest one ... , and the only one happy booting of USB Memory sticks 
...

A computer screen fortunately has the ability to change "luminosity", and this 
helps with readability, also, I can move it comfortably to a position where my 
eyes are most comfortable ... , probably has something to do with that, also 
chose "terminal bold" as the font to improve readability ... :-)

The kid who was helping out at work, fixed his Toshiba laptop - was so virus 
invested it would not boot properley ... :-(( , showed him how to convert 
DVD's so he could watch them on his PSP ... , he was thrilled, and I was not 
impressed .... I figure I don't want to go much smaller than my EeePc, it is 
also better than these new fangled "portable" DVD players, even if the screens 
are about the same size ...

Not always happy with it, but, sometimes, I don't have much of a choice, like 
SKYPE ... <sigh>

Only reasonable way to check that is to feed the digital audio output to a 
outboard DAC, that has LED's that indicate the frequency of the signal they 
are recieving from the computer ... , unless you have some "heavy" test 
equipment ...

In the mean time, I am up the creek, without a paddle, till my brothers choose 
to use something else ... , so I am back to not having much choice ... , Skype 
is way, way cheaper than GSM or POTS telephone ...
