Hello Maurice.

03 Jan 10 15:59, you wrote to me:

PIII's where good cpu's, but I also had problems with the motherboards, TV
cards, are a problem to get hold of here, and I never saw a PVR 150 on sale,
and I sorely wanted one at one stage ... gave the Leadtek 2000 (?) I did
manage to find away the other day ... , was never really happy with it ...

The (emt64) ability, buggered me around, building 32 bit bluedot linux, but
work fine on a PIII ... , not sure I understand why ...

 >> the EeePc 700 2G Surf,

MK> Right. Paul's is identical except 4G and an onboard web cam.

Got a web cam for christmas ... :-) works well, except, 384kbps ADSL is not
fast enough for both sides of a SKYPE connection to operate webcams ... :-((

 >> and the only one happy booting of USB Memory sticks

MK> Really? I would have thought the boards that take the Intel 640 and
MK> 524 would handle that better than the eeepc.

The board with the 640 on, I have not had any success, the other with the 524
sometimes boots, and other times, does not ... , same USB stick, unchanged ...
If I remember later this eveing, I want to make a CF_Disk bootable, in an
adapter, and see if I can boot of of it with the EeePc, I expect it will ...
<VBG>

Why I take great pains to check that I hit the right hand dot on the keyboard
here when entering them ... :-(

MK> FOR SURE!!! With mplayer onboard and the inteldrmfb turned on nothing
MK> beats it. However external speakers are definetly a must for movies.
MK> Headphones work okay. Anything BUT the onboard speakers.

Speaking of inteldrmfb, is that offer for downloading your full EeePc setup
still good, if so, then I can grab, it while I still have international
bandwidth to play with ...

MK> Hm. Ever checked out linphone? gtk based instead of qt. I flatly
MK> refuse to go the qt/cmake route.

Can that talk to SKYPE, or does a MS-Win version exist ... , will check it out
on google later, not heard of it, till you mentioned it ...

 >> unless you have some "heavy" test equipment

MK> My ears. Also what I see as far as processing goes as well as
 MK> stinkin' dependencies.

In some circles, there are those who will tell you that your ears "hear" what
you want them to hear, or otherwise expect them to hear ... :-(( , and more or
less processing is not regarded as relavant - flat earthers still do exist, in
the serious audio world anyway ... :-(((( They can be a real PITA ...

 >> In the mean time, I am up the creek, without a paddle,

MK> Been there, done it. However in this case I am avoiding that
 MK> particular creek.

Like I said, you don't have computer using brothers in Kabul Afganistan, who
are not more than computer USERS, and well I enjoy being able to talk to them,
cheaply via SKYPE as no other avenue is available - must still check out
linphone ...

 >> till my brothers choose to use something else

MK> If I am right then they won't have a choice in the near future. Mind
MK> you it isn't like MS users really have a choice do they? I suggest
MK> nodding, smiling and backing away slowly. Don't make any sudden
MK> movements and nobody will get hurt.

MS users don't have much choice, and Linux users usually have too many darn
choices ... , six of one and half a dozen of the others ... <grin>
