You're thinking of the old generation Crays.  The CX1 looks to be more along
the line of multisocket boards along the line of what Supermicro did with their
dual socket half sized boards where two boards (4 cpu's) can live in a 1U rack.
 I think those are meant for Xeon 5500 series which are 771's and max out at
four cores.  Intel currently has a X7460 with six cores and a motherboard with
for sockets which would mean 24 cores on one system.  Word on the street is
that an 8 core processor is planned for release later this year but I haven't
heard anything about how many can live on a single board.  Also they have a 48
core 'cpu' (more of a system on chip ... I think) meant for Cloud Computing but
have never seen one up for grabs.  Some hype about it claims it max's out at
just over 100W.

I think that is the idea of the CX1.  They are using the Xeon 5600 series. Also
using 1600 watt hot-plug power supplies but don't say how many will be required
to max that baby out.  64 cores is max per chassis.

At the time I was thinking of liquid cooling supplied via a backpack of some
sort.  Mind you that would limit the required battery to power the sucker. 
Definetly requires more planning and development.
