I didnt mean it negatively.. I should have elaborated better.

Xandros made no secret that their distro was aimed at being as Windows like as
possible, in order to lure Windows weanies away from M$.

I tried out Xandros, came stock with an extremely bloated and customised KDE,
that was real real close to being Windows like and included Crossover/Wine,
that would at the time, let one even download and install Microsoft Internet
Explorer 6.

I am sure your local dealer does something similiar..

That is correct, and is what I debated Maurice on many moons ago..

The geek to newbie ratio in computers is far more off balance than it used to
be, there are more newbies now.

Windows is a hardware intensive OS, moreso now than then, but the hardware in
the 90's is not a fair measure of Windows today.

I have people all the time, bringing in machines that originally ran Windows 98
or ME, to which they put XP on it and did not upgrade the memory and wonder why
it is slow, or even crashing.. I make no denials that Windows is a hawg..

Windows ME and VISTA are the abhorrations of recent MS past.. Albeit Vista
doesnt totally deserve all of the press it has gotten.

But alot of the problems people have had with windows has more to do with
under-powering it and then with the switch from the DOS Kernel to the NT
KErnel, people expecting DOS apps to function as if nothing has changed (mixing
in some ignorance from newbies)

Windows 7 is a darn good improvement, I have 2 boxes and one netbook running
it. Intel Core i7 processor, 8gb of ram, 1 tb hdd.. etc.

Not underpowered here.

My linux box does quite well on a dual core AMD chip with 3 gb ram. Boots up
faster than any of the Winder boxes.. I get to have the best of both worlds.
