Hello Maurice!

Any quality issues with the Supermicro boards?
I'll be off googling for info on them in any case.

 MK> A tad
MK> too pricey for me at the moment but they sure know how to tempt me.

Well the onboard Matrox has me intrigued.
Thjey were big with a local dealership many years ago but that
shop was driven out by competition

 MK> Definetly a good deal. P4's?

No idea but that's the price.
Not really having that need due to the reliability of that box I'd find out
if this box were to go south on me.

I really in my circumstance cannot do without a computer.

MK> anything from MS on anyone's machine. My quote at the time was, "Have
MK> fun." No regrets about it here.

 > my first was a Packard Bell with DOS 5.0 - Win 3.1.

MK> I forget the manufacturer but mine was a 386 with a 20M hardrive. It

PB came with a 340M Seagate, weird motherboard form factor and really odd
video and COM 1 tied to the rinky dink 8250 UART driven internal 2400 modem.

I figured out how to bypass that with a undocumented jumper and hook
a 14,400 modem on COM 1 then later just before the motherboard died salvaged
a similar Packard Bell with a 1650 UART, rejumpered from 33MHz - 66
and went to a 28,800 modem.

It too had a dedicated modem but the same jumper trick worked on it as well,
remove the 20 pin internal modem header and jumper pin 10 to pin 11 freed up
the COM 1 port.

 > Despite that 486-66's limitations

MK> I still like 486's. They were the first PC's I started to like. Didn't
MK> care much for the 386 but it came in handy as a home computer for
MK> logging into a network I had access to back then. Also BBS's that were

 MK> I think you're being too kind. ;-)

I'd get moderated were I to express my true opion however one must respect
those that are happy with lesser operating systems, at least a little
for they know not the true light ;-)
