Well I've been on about it for some months now and found
only compromises.

This compromises NOTHING I didn't have clearly in my mind from go!

The particular motherboard in question appears to me to be an overstock
clearance item in advance of a newer and improved, perhaps native USB 3.0,
features I can add with an additional card.

It's got no bad reviews.
A good  history of reliabilty, just a BIOS upgrade that may or may not be
needed. 

A google search for problems reported essentially Windows drivers for
the ethernet and sound card which is in fact a standard thus I am anticipating
no problem with the sound.

Should the motherboard ethernet card pose a problem I'll simply
use my existing Linux complient card in one of the PCI slots or
perhaps later spring for a dual ethernet card.

Thus after reviewing next months budget I'm really more likely than
not to buy just the motherboard picking up the rest later.

Putting everything I've learned about it it does in fact look the winner.

2 each, PCI, PCIe1, PCIe16, 3xUSB with cable and more headers on the 
motherboard, 1 IDE, 6 SATA II, up to 16 Gig RAM.

I price it out thusly:
Motherboard $90 
2 x DDR2 1024 800 Crucial memory sticks at $56
1 AMD 64 dual core Brisbane 5200 drawing 65 watts at $50
Plus a fan and thermal conductive paste.

This works out with tax to precisely what I was willing to go for a less
versatile Micro-ATX motherboard.

Mounts with six screws onto my existing IBM ATX tower case
with swing out hard drive door except for the three bays that require a 
5 1/4 - 3.5 adapter unless it's a internal CD or DVD - CD-ROM burner 
player.

Oh and overclocking is provided should I desire to which is unlikely.
Extensive BIOS options and jumpered BIOS protection provided.

Any other additions can come L8r. 

Gee Maurice do you think I'll notice any difference in performance between
my existing system and this one ;-)
