Well thus my reason for saving all your posts into one larger appended 
file, ~/text/maurice

Multimail is good in it defaults to append and recognises ~/

No problem then as this board has one onboard and I've already a card for
one of the PCI slots, thus two ethernet cards.

I couldn't care less which is assigned which and though I do not recall
the file name where this is setup it'd be easy enough to find once again.

I'm pretty sure it's in /etc/rc.d and rc.init or some such, anyway, been
there and found it before.

Ah you beat me to it, about pcie x1.
Anyway are these slots backwards compatible with pci or would I need
an upgraded ethernet card to exploit a pcie x1?

This goes beyond just an interest in ethernet cards alone as it seems
I'm covered for two there.

No matter either way really and it's good to know they're out there.
Well backwards compatibility would be rather nice if that's the case.

Yeah me neither though I did browse through that file and thus noted the four
ports eth0 - eth3 ready to go.

I'm now beginning to grasp the differences between how C is coded in practice
and how I recall beginning to learn that language way back in 1994 and so
am picking up on it just through viewing the syntax.

Less obscure but lengthier.

I prefer it the other way around for some reason though.
