They finally made it.  :-)

Neither.  WeBeBashing is a bash script that calls up vim to handle the utf-8
encoded text while the script itself - with perl's assistance - handles all the
FTN schtuffenpütten.  In order to convert from utf-8 to any other encoding I'd
have to add the routine between the saving of the utf-8 text message and the
additional FTN headers, kludges, etc.  It can be done but then I'd need to know
what the targetted system can handle and in the case of Fido echoes that would
be virtually impossible to know.  A better practice, if indeed it ever comes to
pass, would be that all echomail would be utf-8 and save everyone a TON of
grief.  This message contains utf-8 characters and so far that hasn't broken
anything although I've only see one site that can handle it properly and it
doesn't count.  The rest *could* handle it if they didn't screw with the
encoding which they do and get it TOTALLY WRONG.

Try the text file I posted and let me know.  Given that it is a regular cp-850
encoded text file it should tell the tale.  I already know that netmail
converted to cp-866 from utf-8 works so I am guessing that BBS's Fido messaging
is getting it wrong.  Please try it in a text editor you know for a fact works
100% with cp-850.  The sysop I sent the cp-866 netmail to uses golded and
characters were correctly displayed.  cp-850 should work as well.

I doubt your BBS will handle that any better than cp-850.  Looks to me that
your stuck with 7 bit ascii characters in messaging given your BBS software of
choice.
