Hello Maurice,

On 23 Dec 12 at 10:03, you wrote to me:

I have no idea. I just went with a basic "edit what was currently there to suit
my needs" kinda deal in msged.cfg. I haven't dove into it much like I have with
Golded. I still don't have most of the alt commands down to go to the next
message area or anything like that with Msged. Half of it differs from Golded,
and I'm still learning that, so I try to leave Msged alone for now. :)

I was just testing it to see if I could read UTF-8 off the get-go. Which it
can't.

I get that here as well. I'm not a part of the 3 othernets she's a part of, but
for some reason, all the hexidecimal outbound directories are created here when
she polls me with Fidonet files. No biggie, though, those directories never get
filled with anything, so if I'm real anal about it, I can just manually remove
them -- until she polls me again. :)

NB>> With Msged, I can't even read it

Msged is setup in a Gentoo VM, where I have everything set to UTF-8, but might
not have gone to the full extent as I did on my server machine. I just
remembered I didn't have the font set to a UTF-8 capable font the last time I
mentioned I couldn't read the Moose line. But even switching to that now gives
me some different odd characters from the other font.

NB>> I couldn't possibly bring myself to asking if I could try it

The next couple days are going to be quite busy over here, but I might take you
up on that offer. I have a perfectly clean Arch VM I wouldn't mind giving it a
try on. I have proftpd setup over here to feed any mail packets to one of my
random VMs as a point address as well. So that wouldn't be an issue there
either. Pointing off a point would probably be some kind of desecration to
Fidonet, in some people's eyes. :)

NB>> too good to be true, and I would vacate my BBS

MK> Heh, heh. Yeah I wrestled with that dilemma about 15 years ago. I

If I got rid of my BBS, I wouldn't have any interest in the rest of the things
that go with it, with echomail being one of them. Though I'm always willing to
test things aside from my main system in any of the random VMs I have setup
over here. As hard as it is given my spare time and what I devote that spare
time to, I like to try to stay somewhat current on some of the better console
distros out there, ie: Debian, Arch, and Gentoo at the moment. And the use of
VMs is a great place to do that, instead of buying multiple machines that would
take up way too much room. :)

MK> Anyhow if you're interested in playing around with ftp and fidonet-ish
MK> ideas let me know and I'd be more than happy to share what I have
MK> working so far. I think it could stand some improvements.

Sounds like something I would enjoy taking a look at.

Regards,
Nick
