I have this on my main pc there is my Gentoo Linux router, where it now runs
with kernel 3.10.7 32bit and no sysvinit, just have linux on 3 partions of
mount sda1 sda2 sda3. This then a 64bit motherboard, 64bit cpu but 32bit gentoo
install on a 161G harddisk (32bit), there now do work as both dhcpd named
shorewall and have both WAN and LAN settings, (it now from time to time have
some WAN problems where it is like Linux is loose some function like monitor
setting and go blank so only way back is reboot it all, and now by 2015 is it
like named and shorewall not works proberly.
So from midt December 2015 had I on my pc3 for linux had a unused 1tb harddisk
where I on this, pc3 64bit motherboard and 64bit cpu, got a clean new fresh
linux Gentoo install, and got it working with the kernel 3.16.5 64bit with only
Linux partions and mount on it, no sysvinit for dos and windows, just sda1=boot
sda2=swap sda3=root and sda4=/home and lot of space for sda1 sda3 and sda4 (sda
= 1.5TB), it got worked fine, then I moved over on the 32bit router pc and mout
it as /mnt/ with only 3 mounts /1tbboot /1tbroot /1tbhome, then copied all
config files for nets settings to with -ex names so the working config not been
overwritten, config files for netcards in /etc/ /etc/conf.d/ + /udev rules
files for netcards and then for dhcpd bind named shorewall postfix etc.
Gone all things through and testing it up after some config updates for mac
addresss and what there should be done, restart the router pc with the new 1tb
64bit start up and had some netcards problem by the kernel changed the eth0
eth1 and eth2 to other nets, but it then got work with no use of enp* netcards
names and only moved the net mac of the netcards 2 external netcards and a
onboard netcard, and it only like to start the external cards up and cam out
with no onboard cards was working by it some times saw the onboard card named
as enp2s0 and it was on and on like error on it, then i at least with help from
latest linux systemrescuecd got all cards of eth0 eth1 eth2 to get on place
with the right mac setting in /udev/rules/ and use of mac_eth0="(mac addr)
mac_eth1= mac_eth2= + use of mac_enp8s1= mac_enp8s2 mac_enp2s0= and then by
several reboot first by sysrescuecd and then harddisk boot could see that it
now was to comment out lines with enp in. ad it worked but some of the named
and shorewall had some problem, a Gentoo function of 'emerge --sync' and the
@world comamnd worked, but the pc had some hardware problem of a external
monitor card and motherboard problem there caused the pc and linux to go blank
and reboot the pc, so I done a kernel compile by emerge gentoo-sys emerge
genkernel and run genkernel all, and after this a reboot and testing on the
ifconfig showed right ip for netcards, this was working with eth0 eth1 and eth2
right mac address, but eth2 seem to go up and down ad it is the onboard
netcard.
I then find a 10/100/1000 Giga netcard (it has not been in work before as no
one of the 3 linux kernels could like the 3 Sky2 Giga netcards before) I too
got hand of 2-3 other netcards of just 10/100 RTL r8139 cards but those could
not got on the routers motherboard, there was only left connectors for the Giga
netcards. I plugged the Giga netcard on the board, and checked it out with
sysrecuecd and it found all the 4 netcards now , but it got to me for some
config update and checking, reboot with sysrecuecd use of installed linux on
harddisk make it first to both fine the all for netcards and gave the right
macs for net, then I tried up to do a directly harddisk boot with the kernel
3.16. in use, and all netcards now got the right mac and ip address but wih a
bad for both eh2 and eth there changing in network ip address and mac address,
i moved some cable for eth2 WAN to it right place and restart the router pc and
had only the 1tb harddisk in use + the cdrom ( this is only in the drive for to
could be use as boot if the harddisk boot failed), after the boot upit all was
fine but with error from shorewall there not would start by it says it not
could fine Python ( have the latest used version of both 2.x and 3.x compiled
as the system done this).
I then tryed to do a emerge --sync but got the error of emerge not could find
and use Python anymore by the new made of the kernel. So it is like the kernel
not have the right and good compiled of kernel.
I maybe now have to make me a new fresh make of this 64bit kernel and setup for
router by take the harddisk of the pc and put in to another 64bit pc and make a
new clean 64bit install on this. Or use some way to make the Python to be
implentied on it where it is now.

It should be the latest version for both 2.x and 3.x as it both got installed
and compiled with install cd.

This is on main fido pc there is had run fine until before new year. Where is
was used for some point boss format nodelist making and then mostly for
Leagues.
I have dosemu fine in work on my my fido 2 node 2 system with kernel 3.8 on and
here had it run fine in about 3 years now.
If I could make out to find out how this running DOS in virtual space can work
for me I could try it instead.
Now have I all my dos doing on like use of dosem drive_c where it seem to be
lost as dosemu right now no is been right installed so they can be missing. Lot
of setting and configs for dos runs.
Take care,
Gert
