Ärende: About C=64, DOS, GNU/Linux, ...

Hey Jan!

I think was, was being 10 or more years ago. Linux evolved way faster then
OS/2 could cope with and even IBM abandoned OS/2 for Linux seeing the growth
and potential therein. Heck even Cray came out with a version of Linux over a
decade ago. MS and Sun are the only two that haven't seen the light. Mind you
I doubt MS can or is able to see the light.

Okay. Sorry about that chief.

 JW> See also

Right. I have seen that and simular along the journey.

That works for me too.

JW> But, hey, that is the whole point. When I point to the strong points

Okay. Except that in my particular case it wouldn't hold since it isn't
because it is proprietary but rather because it is useless. I used to have a
proprietary compiler(s) for DOS way back when. Didn't care much for them so I
tried djgpp simply to stay in tune with gcc which was what I preferred. Thus
moving to Linux when I did was far easier for me then it was/is for most
people. The Solaris experience didn't hurt any either. The move then was
better and simpler at that time then jumping onto OS/2 would have been. Hence
my comments about OS/2, although I did try it out first before deciding to go
straight Linux. Then it was a simple matter of finding a distribution and
Slackware won. Debian was my second choice but I found it more restrictive and
anal then Slackware.

JW>>> Yes, at <http://www.janw.easynet.be/eng.html> you can see
JW>>> how James Vahn has explained to me how to use it.
MK>> Sounds great. I'll have to check that out. Do you still hear
 MK>> from him?

JW> Isn't he on this list?

He abandoned ship quite some time ago. I could hazard an educated guess since
he did say in an admin echo as to why but that would be negative towards a
certain group of people that I don't care to fued with anymore.
