Not sure what you refer to as "DOS-think" but having used it
has never been a problem for me.

Yes, but at one time the floppy was the only cost-effective
method for hobbyists to store archives. I tried lost cost QIC
tapes and they were terrible. The noise of the tape drive alone
made me regret having a tape drive in the machine.

No digital camera here but my brother has two plus various
storage devices. I am familiar with them but don't use one
myself.

I have W31 installed on my '486.

Linux is good.

The Russian government and one of the American government
agencies both used DOS for their satellites. DOS continues to
be used for embedded applications and is an inexpensive OS to
use for novice programmers as there are many formerly
commercial compilers available for free now. 

DOS is also used for bootable floppies by third party software
vendors. 

DOS is the ghost in the machine. ;-)
