It's been awhile since I used FTP for FIDO echomail but it's an
'on demand' packaging and FTP does not allow initiating the
software that bundles the echos that the user desires. Seems I
had to initiate that via telnet then log in via FTP to get the
bundled echos. As I've said, it's been awhile now and my memory
of the processes involved are a bit faded.

I use both depending on what I require at the time.

When communicating with other businesses they would ask for
'.doc' files (meaning MSWord 'doc') most of the time. Some
wanted both MS '.doc' files and what they called a "black and
white" which meant (to them) a straight text file of the same
document. They claimed they could run a scanner/OCR over the
B&W with fewer mistakes. :-)
