OBERON has it's own file system format but I don't recall any
utilities that would allow it to format for other OS.

Somewhat but the OS and the language have one name, OBERON.

"The Source" was primarilly the haunt of college professors,
lawyers, and doctors.

It has always seemed to me that hotswapping was more a matter
of fault tolerance within the hardware? Flushing any cache
memory prior to removing a drive should be rather simple if the
hardware won't 'glitch' from contra-emf somehow.

A friend tried to convince me to purchase a used VAX some years
back. I told him it would be a good way to arrange for the FBI
to start watching what I was up to. :-)

I suppose. If I had a really kick-*ss project in mind that
required certain hardware to make it work I would resign myself
to writing whatever code was required for that particular
hardware set.

I think the concensus is that 'Linux' is just the kernel.
GNU/Linux is most of the rest of the OS plus the kernel? That
Stallman could see a future in the Linux kernel is/was a good
thing for Stallman, for Linus, and for those who like to
tweak/program and just plan 'fiddle' with computers. :-)
