If by 'native' you refer to software included with the
installation of Windows I can't really say. I've used third
party apps for telnet and FTP and never bothered to try M$
versions.

I realize that 'windows users' are often computer illiterates
but there are also college grads with CS degrees who are
windows users and I suspect they can 'handle it'. :-)

At the start (for me) all BBS were private and there was no
fidonet. Many were 'ring backs' that ran on Heath Zenith
computers using C/PM. They were 'by invitation only'.

Nope. Some began with Apple computers, many started with C/PM
machines, and others began by using DOS machines. The TRS80s
were online at the start as were Commodores and RS Color
Computers. :-) 

Some of the best BBS were running on TRS80s and usually written
by the sysop who owned the machine.

I used it at a government agency.

I think it was the challenge trying to show people like
yourself that DOS has done more than you give it credit for.

Hyperterminal PE isn't what I would call 'crippled'. I don't
_like_ it's user interface but it's totally functional.

Even with text color 'cues' make using software easier. ATP OLR
uses colored text here on this machine.
