Probably true.  I noticed that around here as well.  On the plus side, if you
restrict writes to these then they will last a long, long time which is why I
recommend doing the initrd method of booting since it'll be restricted to
writing to RAM.  Given that you only have 32M available then keeping the initrd
to what is absolutely required for the machine's intended useage is a good idea
in this case and that can luckily be handled in less the 4M.  However you'll
need room for the kernel which is why I suggested a 8M cfdisk.  So in your case
with a 64M cfdisk then you have lots of elbow space which you could partion off
to do something else and do no or little writes to the partition that contains
the kernel and initrd (rootfs).  That should take the cfdisk the distance even
if the rest of the cfdisk gets trashed due to too many writes.  I tried that
with a 16M cfdisk and despite some issues with it over the course of years and
years of useage it still works.  I honestly think it is the way to go with an
embedded type application all things considered despite any initial cost.  The
real savings show up over time and usuage, and are there and real especially
these days now that these disks are being used by many, many different devices.

I have a plan.  I think it'll work no matter what client but am not quite there
yet.  I've been too busy playing with things that I want working better. 
However my neighbour and I want to start playing with streaming so it'll be
soon.  One thing for sure is that we'll get it working as best as it can given
the hardware we have at our disposal and it better be great or ye ol' heave ho
priciple *WILL* apply.  You can count on it.
