I'd stay away from the 64-bit one for awhile unless you've already ported the
stuff you need to 64-bit.  I've heard the 64-bit p4's have issues with 32-bit
apps.  I think if I were going to make the move to 64-bit world I'd start off
with a 64-bit AMD to recompile what I needed in the way of apps and then think
about 64-bit xeons once I was sure the needed ported apps all work.

Care to invest in one of those?

I could live with the above machine except the OS choices would be the first
things to trigger my heave_ho() function upon the first bootup here.  ;-)

My version of Slackware - I like the name Slackn'hack - would take over in
short order on the above machine.
