Hey Kenneth!

It sure looks that way although I haven't used mplayer this way before so it is
all new to me. Now that I've moved the tv card to the new capacitor board and
got it working (2.6.15.2) I'll have to get mplayer working with the radeonfb
which is also completely new to me.  dmesg says;

radeonfb: Found Intel x86 BIOS ROM Image
radeonfb: Retreived PLL infos from BIOS
radeonfb: Reference=27.00 MHz (RefDiv=60) Memory=150.00 Mhz, System=150.00 MHz
radeonfb: PLL min 12000 max 35000
radeonfb: Monitor 1 type CRT found
radeonfb: EDID probed
radeonfb: Monitor 2 type no found
Console: switching to colour frame buffer device 160x64
radeonfb (0000:01:00.0): ATI Radeon QY

I am assuming the 'radeonfb: Monitor 2 type no found' means the tv-out on that
card. Interesting.
lspci -v shows;

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon RV100 QY [Radeon
7000/VE] (prog-if 00 [VGA])
        Subsystem: Unknown device 18d4:000f

I am guessing I can change the above and will try booting up to 24-bit mode and
see what mplayer can handle wrt display on the radeonfb. The console looks
excellent. :-)

 KP> [ libjasper ]
KP> one might replace pdf by xml in a wrapper, i've read. jasper is

Will check it out. As for pdf I am not bothering on this particular machine.
What for? I am not even bothering with browsing as I plan to use this purely
for digital mutlimedia for the LAN. Will need ftpd (file transfers and
backups), telnetd (for streaming) and possibly the tv-out to a suitable monitor
(a DC tft monitor).

The rest simply doesn't matter.

 KP> [ cf filesystem ]
MK>> Yeah. minix got lost along the way. ext2 works fine for my

KP> did you ever use xia fs? i guess it's pretty much off the scene now.

Nope. I sometimes use dosfstools to repair flash disks for people who screw
them up formatting them with Windows, especially the usb flash disks, but don't
use dos formats myself. I haven't done that for awhile now so I think it is
safe not to worry about it anymore, especially with the larger the 520M flash
disks seeing that I have yet to see a device that can handle them other on
Linux. ext2 it is.

 KP> [ serial ata leading ]

The last I looked I had problems with that. Perhaps smp? Might have a looksee
on this one.

MK>> Bye-bye DVD burner!!! What a total waste of money and time that
MK>> is. What a bunch of lowlifes. Good thing they have nothing
 MK>> worthwhile eh?
KP> my latest (and first and only) mini cd-r still seemed to mountable
KP> and readable yesterday, fwiw :-)

I burned a few of those but haven't tried booting one on this new guy yet. One
regular cd-r failed miserably but does work on a dvd-rom. Given that I put a
fairly new cd-rom on the new guy and it has problems with cd's burned from the
dvd burner my guess that it really sucks at compatibility is looking true. If
so then I suppose it'll have to go.

It won't surprise me any if I am right about this.

Life is good,
Maurice
