As well as compatibilty.  I personally think I went far beyond what I care to
as far as this exersize went and am more then satisfied with the result all
things considered.  I think the most significant contribution, mplayer aside,
was the xvid libs.  Messing around with the audio too much seems to generate
more work then it is probably worth as far as movies are concerned.  Personally
I don't think it is worth it in this particular case.  I'd assume with surround
sound not messing with the audio track would be even more prudent, not that it
is an issue with me personally.

Yes but I decided the last job was the winner and it was only a single pass.  I
doubt very much a better job could be done given the size, cpu time, etc.  All
things considered I am inclined to go with what I posted here and readjust the
multimedia rootfs accordingly.  I figure I can trim quite a bit off there and
end up with exactly what is needed for an awesome digital vcr.  Now I just need
to get tv-out working.  After that I'll worry about the dvi on that HP g200 agp
card but currently don't have any digital devices to output to.  TV-out will
see more airtime here.

Yeah I am a sucker.  Mind you he does some good soldering so I can't complain
... too much.

I doubt the c3 needs it.  Also I might be able to get away with underclocking
the k6-2's with just heatsinks as well.  I haven't gotten that far along ...
yet.  One step at a time but I already think this audio/visual stuff will make
excellent benchmarking once I get around to clustering all those.
