Yes but one of the options is ftp and isn't up to snuff with a standard ftp
unix app compartitively speaking.  If a valid option for irex is an ftp
transfer, then why isn't regular ftp considered a valid Fido connection?

DOS-think at it's finest.  Linux, or any unix OS, doesn't need apps like that. 
Never did and hopefully never will.  "Do one thing and do it well" comes to
mind and I'd argue that at least on the point of ftp transfers it doesn't make
the cut.  For dos it probably shines simply because dos can't do any one thing
well, nevermind a bunch of things.

Not in this case.  There isn't one thing that couldn't be done better with a
regular, standard unix tools scripted together with your shell of choice.  Even
the kludges could be tacked in with a shell script for transferring to a FTN
uplink.  A script could even fake out a binkp transfer if one wanted it to and
could be bothered to write one.  I did that awhile back and even posted it in
the linux_bbs echo and never got one response, good or bad, about it.  Then and
there I abandoned all hope for bbsing on linux and haven't looked back.  Now
the mode is the 'last one standing' and I bet you right now that it won't be an
irex based system.

Anyhow I am starting to script in 'dialog' for my points and plan to eliminate
the need for tossers on the main node and call that a 'BBS'.  It is all
terminal based and I plan to keep it that way without the need for any dos
emulation, fido or otherwise.
