Hey Stephen!

I enabled the base pcmcia stuff in the kernel as modular and rebuilt it which
results;

'ls /lib/modules/2.6.17-rc2/kernel/drivers/pcmcia/'
pcmcia.ko  pcmcia_core.ko  rsrc_nonstatic.ko  yenta_socket.ko

Once I installed the pci card in question and rebooted to the new kernel I get
right out of the box;

'lsmod'

I still need to put in the new pcmcia card apps for 2.6 kernels but so far
without them everything seems pretty good, even before editting udev which more
then likely will need to happen.  So far so good.  :-)

Also read something about migrating the pcmcia cardbus database from the old
scheme but as of this writing haven't done that as I may not have to given the
above success.  We'll see if the new pcmcia kernel apps can nail what I have
available without it.  I think I might be right about Fedora's apps being
broken wrt laptops, even though this isn't a laptop (a SMP p3 motherboard with
a pci pcmcia cardbus adapter with a 3.5" two slot cardbus).  I've seen the
Texas Instruments chipset on a few laptops and am guessing it works the same
for them.  A very nice chipset by the looks of it.

I'll check what the neighbour has in the way of pcmcia cards to see if he has
any modems and/or wireless cards.  I know he has some older network cards and I
just might luck out with the rest.  He has all sorts of junk over there
collecting dust.  :-)
