Understood.  In my case I was doing stuff simular to this with dos so the move
to linux was a much easier decision for me seeing there were already great apps
geared in that direction, such as lilo.  I never even heard of grub until
someone local showed me a knoppix cd boot.  Knoppix was lost on me since it was
more concerned about gui apps which are useless to any of my machines other
then one for testing gui apps.  Personally I have little use for gui's and find
them too needy of valuable resources without providing anything of real
consequence to me (freecell maybe).  Right now I have three machines running
and only one has a monitor/keyboard/mouse attached to it and the last time I
checked X worked on it fine, although xine has an issue with syncing wrt the Xv
lib.  MPlayer's xmga worked great so all is not lost as far as DVD playing
goes.  Mind you mga_vid on the console works even better methinks but I might
be a tad prejudice there.  Luckily that works hardwarewise without pci-e.  :-)

Right.  That is why I said it would be really tough to learn unixie stuff if
all one had is manpages to learn from.

Sounds perfect.  The extra-special-lilo.conf will be right at home on there.

Perfect.  That would work for me.

Not here it doesn't.  It usually fails before it gets a chance to mount.

Right.  For installing/testing purposes I'd say they are perfect without
actually ever laying eyes on them.  However I bet I could make them even more
perfect.  ;-)
