Nor does that in itself make it truely Linux.  The only people who have claim
is the Linux kernel and is found in source form at either www.kernel.org or
ftp.kernel.org.  I have yet to see a precompiled kernel there.  Have you?

Thus my answer still stands as the MOST honest answer as to what constitutes
Linux.

It is here.  Always have, always will.  Thus proper.  If you decide to go with
whatever the distribution of choice provides then I suppose that is the proper
way there.  However that doesn't always work and therefore knowing how to build
your own kernels makes you superior, Linuxie speaking, given it is a tried and
true method of granting yourself a muchly superior system then any distribution
can provide, including the best which is Slackware.

No it hasn't.  All they supply is the source.  Not one precompiled kernel

I never said he had to.  The kernel *IS* Linux!  The rest of any distribution
other then the kernel is whatever, usually GNU but not all.
